Initiation Gone Wrong

What action should be taken when a student trying to become a part of a fraternity, is found dead? A week ago today, in West Virginia, college freshman Nolan Burch, was found dead. As a high school senior, only a year younger than the victim, it really hits me that once you go off to college, you're officially independent. No one is there to hold your hand and babysit you, all the choices you made are based off your own decisions. So what do you tell a person that is making their own independent choices? How do you try to tell them that many those aren't the best choices to make? Personally, I'd be as honest as possible, maybe even a little blunt about it. But all in all, I wouldn't sugar coat anything because that's not my personality. Especially if it leads to danger. In Nolan's case, I wouldn't even know what to say to his family. How do you come out to parents who just lost a child not much older than me, that maybe his choices are what lead to his death? I would tell them that God has a plan and reason for everything. That maybe, he actually save Nolan from something much more worse that would've happened in the future.

Protectors or Predators?

Last night, the nation, maybe even the world was distraught by the unbelievable knees that the policeman who shot and killed Mike Brown was found not guilty. It makes you wonder how corrupt and fixed the Justice system is. Last night alone, I saw the most disgusting and disrespectful status/tweets/post on all my social media websites. There was people saying "why should we care? There's black on black crime everyday" or "He's white, y'all knew he was gonna be found not guilty." Of course when it comes down to it, everyone sees the case as one of pure racism, but that's not the real problem at hand. Police are supposed to protect us, bring us peace, and serve justice when it is due. Not kill us and scare us. American, black, white and every color in between, will soon have no respect what do ever for law enforcement officials. Why should we? If they're using unnecessary rough tactics and killing innocents just to "do what's right," I'd rather have the violence. Because if I can't trust the police to do their job, how could I expect anyone to cooroperate and abide by the law they set for us? Justice wasn't served, and it will never be until we take a stand. #JusticeforAMERICA

Like Christ during Crisis

What do you do when your friend, peer, student or even family member just snaps and go on a shooting spree? You forgive them. That's right, FORGIVE THEM! As Christians, and even in other religions, we are told to be like our higher power when it comes to treating each other the correct way. In the recent school shooting in Washington, a group of friends were shot by someone they thought they could trust. Shooter Jaylen Fryberg shot 5 people, two of which died, before turning the gun on himself. Among the victims was Fryberg's own cousin, Nate Hatch. Hatch had been shot in the face by his own flesh and blood, yet unlike his cousin, he survived. From the hospital he made the following tweet:
Nate Hatch's tweet from hospital bed.
This tweet warmed the hearts of those countrywide. How many are able and willing to forgive the person that could have killed them? For this, I applaud Hatch for his braveness and for his connection with Christ. Because in this moment, Nate Hatch was truly like Christ. He is an excellent Christian.

Uncensored, Uncovered, Unleashed and "Breaking" the Internet

About a week ago, Paper Magazine released it's new cover photos featuring Mrs. Kim Kardashian-West. Uncensored, uncover, and unleashed, Kim posed for famous photographer Jean-Paul Goude nude, causing major controversy that has "broken" the internet. Some are praising Mrs. West for her courage and edginess while very few others are putting her down. How dare she, wife and mother, pose and post such graphic photos?! Mean while Alyssa Milano, also a mother, posts a picture of her breast feeding her baby girl, Elizabeth and is being bashed by the public. It is okay for a mother to pose naked for the world but not share a sweet moment between a mother and child?! How backwards can this world be? Milano's photo showed very little, while Kardashian-West goes all out, yet Milano is the one being put down. To make matters worst, Kardashian's photo is said to be the butt of a racist joke. The pose Kardashian-West did with the popped champagne bottle is being compared to Saartjie Baartman, am illegal immigrant from the late 18th century, who was a famous freak show because of her unusually large assets. You'd think Kim would take offense to this? Nope, she's flattered. Personally, I think it's all absurd and wrong! Not only because she's being compared to an African servant used for entertainment, but because she has very little respect for herself. How do you expect to raise a child, a daughter, if you can't give be her positive  role model of how a woman should act and carry herself. As much as people say business and personal life should be seperated, they still impact each other. And sooner or later people will start to realize that, whether it be the easy way or hard way is all up to them.

From Oppression to White House

African Americans have came a long way. From being beating, sold, and treated like garbage, it's amazing how far we(Yes we,seeing as though I am of African decent) have come. Six years ago, America introduced to the world, the first African American president in the United States' history. Now, bringing diversity to the White House, the President has elected Loretta Lynch, an African American woman, to replace Eric Holder as our new Attorney General. Lynch is said to have come from a family of Pastors. The Huffington Post, tells the lineage of pastors in Lynch's family. Lynch, a civil rights activists, was influenced by her family's history become an active member of upholding civil rights. She's really connected with her religious side, it shows in her work that she does. I wasn't so shocked reading the article to find out how religious and kindhearted Loretta Lynch is. Many people expect African Americans to be the stereotypical, rude, "ghetto", and just outright violent. But in reality most aren't. I think there's two types of African Americans: Blacks and African Americans. Black people are those who act like the stereotype the name implies; dark devious and mischevious. African Americans are those who exceed the expectation people think they should act. Those who make a difference. That's exactly what Loretta Lynch stands for and works toward. What the article failed to mention is how Loretta Lynch got her start. You'd be surprised how many people got their start from a struggle,

Minority to Majority?

With election day being tomorrow, Republican candidate Mitch McConnell is taking the lead by 9 points as of November 2, 2014. With no doubt McConnell will remain a part of the Senate. He has not only captured the votes of most women, but also some Democrats! I guess that it's not always about who you know. Tomorrow will determine whether or not McConnell will remain the minority leader or will he become the Majority leader of the Republican Party. Voting can determine a lot, so if you're old enough and registered to vote, have at it! Change starts with you!
