"I'm Just Here So I Won't Get Fined"

Everyone is making a big deal out of Marshawn Lynch never wanting to answer questions from the press. It got to the point where the NFL threatened him with a $500,000 fine. So at the annual Super Bowl media day, Lynch spent 4:51 answering 29 questions saying "I'm here so I won't get fined." It's so funny how people are trying to control what he's doing. If he doesn't want to talk to the press, then he shouldn't have to. I'll admit what he did was a bit childish and probably could have been handled better, but at least he gave an answer. Maybe he wants some privacy and doesn't want the press prying into his personal life. However, he can't have his cake and eat it too. You can't want the fame and be left alone at the same time. But the press, I'm sure, is still going to try their best to get some answer out of him.

School During Exam Week

Other schools are closed during exam week in January EXCEPT NCHS! Not only is this stressful for the students who are taking the exams, but also the teachers. No one likes this change. Students taking the exams have to miss out and fall behind in classes, and teachers have to find other teachers to either proctor their exam or teach their class. Also, the teachers have to grade the exams and classwork. I'm sure everyone would appreciate the much needed break from school. But, alas, good Ol' Mr. Buggs thinks otherwise. I'm not saying anything bad about him, I'm just saying that this wasn't a wise decision. I'm sure what one week of school would do seeing as though it is only stressful. It's not like we started the new semester, so a lot of the High schoolers are having unnecessary study halls instead of doing something productive.

From Paris, With Fear

The recent uprising of ISIS is what sparked the attack on Paris. Because of this attack, many Parisians have been living in fear that it'll happen again. I would feel scared too if it were my home being attacked. I wouldn't feel safe to travel to Paris right now, because I would be scared that while I'm there, another attack will happen.

Shot Heard Around the World

The shooting and killing of Michael Brown, 18 year-old African American boy, sparked a riot heard around the world. There were riots all over the country because of this. Many people felt that what officer Darren Wilson wasn't justified enough. Officer Wilson said he was responding to a call about a robbery when he seen Brown and friends walking down the middle of the street. A confrontation caused an argument and Mike attacked the Officer. Wilson said he fought for his life. However, many thought that this was a racial matter, because two years prior, Trayvon Martin was an innocent 17 year-old black male who was fatally shot and killed. Everyone from your average Joe to famous NBA players like LeBron James had a voice of opinion about this, simply because it was the start of a domino effect. Like I said, before this, it was Trayvon, but it didn't stop there. Kids were being shot, overweight males are being choked to death, pregnant women are being shot in the eye; all because we believe we have corrupted law enforcers. I'm not saying that we don't, but the nation is becoming a place where we have no faith or trust in police officers, state troopers, lawyers, anything. This is causing the nation to spiral out of control. I feel like those who believe in the same thing as I, are being underrepresented because everyone is too busy disagreeing, that they can't agree. In order to change the nation, we have to put our differences aside to come together.

Midterm Election, Where are They Now?

Back in October, I followed the Kentucky Midterm Election and discovered the good, the bad, and the ugly of the process. Because Senator Mitchell McConnell was a part of the senate since 1985 and was the Minority chair leader, Kentucky was a go for him to continue his legacy. No one gave a second look at democratic candidate Alison Grimes. But then she started giving the Kentuckians something to look at, some thanks to the Clintons. Kentucky was a primarily Republican state, McConnell tried to get Kentucky to believe that Grimes shared a lot of the same views as Obama. Some TV ads were even throwing shade to one another, some very harsh on McConnell's part.

There was so little faith in Grimes that even the Democratic Party decided to pull their money out of the race. But that didn't stop Grimes from taking the lead. Grimes maintained the lead for a while, but people weren't too keen of change, so the votes for McConnell started rolling in. It was a neck and neck race, no one was entirely sure who would win; the rookie or the veteran. Unfortunately, the vet took the lead because of his years of experience. This made the Senate, primarily Republican, with a Democratic President. Kentuckians were content with their choice. Grimes, a little upset, wasn't deterred from what she want to do. She is now making plans to take another area in office. She has not announced which office she will seek, but she does plan to seek office. Although, I didn't really care who won this election, I do think that Grimes would've been a better choice because she does have that drive and determination needed for the senate filled with Republicans and a country led by a democrat.

Proverbs 22:6

Proverbs 22:6 states "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Will everything happening in the world today, I think everyone needs a little scripture in their life. This is one of my favorite scriptures, because I love kids and believe that if you teach them correctly we can have a better world. They always say kids are our future, this is true. When you're old and no longer working, who do you think is paying for your social security checks? Therefore, if you want to be able to retire comfortably, you gotta start with the youth. This scripture speaks so much truth; if you teach a child to do things the correct and proper way, they'll remember and live that for the rest of their lives. No child is born evil, racist, bad, or demonic. They develop these habits from their environment and the only way to prevent this is by giving them GOOD examples to live by. The best example you could give is by starting with church. Children are innocent, the world they are brought into, is not

Bug Going Around NCHS

At Niagara Catholic, most everyone is sick, including the teachers. So many are sick that they are thinking about closing school tomorrow. Everyone needs a sick day ones in a while so why not give it to the entire school? I'm not sick with like the flu or anything, but I am very nauseous and have a headache. I'm pretty sure everyone has the flu or the common cold. It sucks, because the school is so small that we're pretty much sharing our germs involuntarily. So everyone make sure to wash you hands, cough into your arm, and bring your own supplies so we can limit the amount of people getting sick.

Security In Elementary Schools?!

We thought high school students were bad, elementary students have proven to be the baddest. Last week in Buffalo, New York, it was reported that a child attending Highgate Heights Elementary School was accused of attacking a teacher for asking the student for a pass. The teacher suffered a concussion after being shoved to the ground, kicked in the head, and hit with a textbook. Over in Elba, New York, three female fourth graders were accused of trying to kill their teacher because she was "mean. They planned to put hand sanitizer around the room, which the teacher is highly allergic to. Classmates told this to parents, whom told a high authority so that the action was prevented. It's just sad that kids are becoming to violent that school districts are considering putting security guards in elementary schools. Are we serious? I'm not saying I don't agree or disagree, but it's just pitiful. I never blame a child, yes I said CHILD, for their wrong-doings. When you think about it, a child only responds the way their environment teaches them how. So if you have a child being brought up in a violent home with no example of the right things to do, how will they know what to do when put in such a situation. I'm saying environment, because not always is it the parents' or guardians' fault, but maybe television or video games. But the fact that they are considering putting security guards in elementary schools should be a message to all families. We need to be more aware of our child/siblings surroundings, because you never know what they're learning from their environment.

Family is Forever

With high school graduation being exactly 5 months and 23 days away, I can't help but think; Am I ready? Did I apply to the right colleges? Did I make enough friends? Did I choose a good major? The closer I get to becoming a college student, the more uncertain I feel. Maybe it's just the nerves, because if one thing is certain, I know I'm ready to move on to the next journey in my life. However I'm not ready to leave my friends, my family. Four years is a long time to get to know a person, then to just up and leave them and might not ever see them again? It's nerve wrecking. I hope that I get to keep my friends in my life for a very long time, but I know in reality people do grew apart. I just want my class to know that no matter how much we grew apart, I will never forget the time we spent together. Shout out to NCHS Class of 2015. Love you guys!
